Accreditation of dietetic programs

A graduate of a DAA accredited dietetics program is eligible to become a DAA member with dietetic qualifications and to join the Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) Program. All DAA accredited dietetic programs are required to reapply for accreditation on a regular basis.

DAA has a national accreditation system, including on-site visits. The accreditation process includes examination of program structure and management, individual subjects or programs, staffing levels, qualifications of staff, quality of classroom and laboratory facilities, library and other support services, student assessment procedures, and organisation of practical placements.

Accreditation reviews are based on the DAA National Competency Standards for Entry Level Dietitians which are available at National Competency Standards.

Provisional accreditation indicates that, although it is not yet possible to evaluate the graduate outcomes, DAA is satisfied that the university has adequately prepared to commence a program that meets the requirements for accreditation, including education of students in all areas of the National Competency Standards.

Full accreditation indicates that DAA is satisfied that the program complies with the DAA accreditation requirements. DAA accredit dietetic programs for a maximum 5 year period.

Re-accreditation describes the process of a fully accredited program maintaining accreditation standards. DAA accredit dietetic programs for a maximum 5 year period.
