Mutual recognition with other countries
At present, New Zealand is the only country that DAA has a mutual recognition of dietetic standards arrangement with.
However, following on from the success of the mutual recognition agreement with New Zealand DAA has opened discussions with other countries with similar dietetic training standards and accreditation processes regarding the mutual recognition of dietetic standards.
Despite DAA’s commitment to mutual recognition members should note that mutual recognition arrangements can be complex and negotiations can be lengthy.
DAA is certainly very supportive of pursing mutual recognition agreements with other countries but we cannot guarantee that they will happen.
Please note that even if we enter into a mutual recognition agreement with other countries at some stage in the future members will still need to secure the appropriate visa/work permit that will enable them to practise dietetics in that country.
To find out about having your Australian dietetic qualification recognised overseas please contact the appropriate Dietetic Association or Registration Board. A list of International Dietetic Associations is available at www.internationaldietetics.org.
If you have a inquiry regarding the progress of mutual recognition with a specific country please email the Recognition and Accreditation Registrar at dsr@daa.asn.au who may be able to help you.
If you are a member of DAA the Working Overseas Discussion Group may be of interest to you. Go to Working Overseas Discussion Group for more details.
Dietitians educated outside Australia, who do not meet the current criteria for Mutual Recognition, will need to sit the DAA Examination in Dietetics for Overseas Educated Dietitians in order to be eligible for full membership of DAA and the APD program. Please refer to the Assessment and Recognition Procedures.
