New Zealand FAQs

There is a difference between DAA’s membership and credentialing requirements. If you only wish to apply for membership of DAA for the purposes of knowledge and resource sharing please refer to details of Affiliate Membership available on the DAA website. This type of membership does not include credentialing. If you wish to apply for membership of/credentialing by DAA please refer to details of Mutual Recognition available on the DAA website.

The Mutual Recognition charter is about recognition of credentialing/registration and that is what you would be applying for. Under MR you would need to join the APD program before the end of March while you still hold a current APC in NZ and you must commit to the requirements of the APD program at that time. For information on those requirements please refer to the website or email apd@daa.asn.au. Alternatively you need to retain your current status with NZ and only apply to DAA when you are ready to commit to the requirements of the APD program.

No, you will not be able to apply for membership of DAA or the APD program under Mutual Recognition without a current APC from NZDB.

There are no legal requirements for registration of dietitians in Australia. Current status as a NZRD does not allow you to automatically join DAA as a member with dietetic qualifications or join the APD program. Unless you meet the requirements of either the Mutual Recognition Agreement or the Dietetic Skills Recognition process (oral and written exams) you are not eligible for  dietetic membership of DAA or membership of the Accredited Practising Dietitian Program.  Eligibility for APD status or current APD status is a prerequisite of many dietetic positions in Australia (especially clinical positions) and APD status is required for a Medicare or Department of Veterans Affairs provider number and for provider status with many private health insurers.

You are not currently eligible for Mutual Recognition. You cannot apply for membership of DAA or the APD program under Mutual Recognition without a current APC from NZDB. You may wish to contact NZDB regarding applying for an APC with the view to being eligible for Mutual Recognition.

Complete all requirements of the dietetic skills recognition process ie: assessment of qualifications, written exam and oral exam.
