With the Australian government committing to provide a rebate for 20 dietetic visits per year for those individuals with an eating disorder who meet the Medicare Benefits Scheme eligibility criteria from 1 November 2019, we want to make sure Accredited Practising Dietitians are equipped with the knowledge and skills to assist these clients.
We understand dietitians have varying levels of exposure to and experience with eating disorders, so the Centre for Advanced Learning (CAL) is in the process of developing two courses. From early 2020, dietitians will be able to undertake face-to-face professional development in eating disorders through CAL, at an intermediate level and an advanced level.
In the meantime, to make a start on your eating disorders training journey, we recommend a brand new online learning course, Dietitian Essentials: Treatment of Eating Disorders, offered through InsideOut.
This training package is designed to help prepare dietitians to deliver treatment services for clients with eating disorders in the community, in preparation for the introduction of the Medicare items in November.
The program has been developed by Accredited Practising Dietitians, and features leading experts, including counselling skills for dietitians expert, Tara MacGregor, the Mindful Dietitian, Fiona Sutherland, and the creator of the RAVES Model, Shane Jeffrey.
