Can I drink alcohol?

In moderation, alcohol can be included as part of a healthy diet and lifestyle, but large amounts of alcohol can be harmful to your health. To minimise risks to your health, both in the short and long term:

  • Men and women should consume no more than 2 standard drinks a day on average.
  • Both men and women should drink no more than four standard drinks on a single occasion.

Alcohol should not be consumed by children or pregnant women. Alcohol passes readily into breastmilk and blood alcohol levels in the infant are more concentrated due to their small size.
