My doctor has told me I have impaired glucose tolerance, what should I do?
If you have been diagnosed with Impaired Glucose Tolerance (commonly known as pre-diabetes) you are at much greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Following a healthy lifestyle can help to reduce your chances of developing type 2 diabetes.
If you are overweight, losing some weight (even just 5-7 percent of your current body weight) is important. This reduces stress on the body and can help make all body systems work more efficiently.
To help with weight loss, try eating smaller portion sizes and being more physically active, and eating food and drink lower in kilojoules. Cooking more meals at home can also help you manage your weight better because you are in control of all of the ingredients.
Getting involved in moderate exercise for 30 minutes a day, on most or every day of the week will also help.
